Avondale jobless center closing
SYLACAUGA (AP) — An employment center in Sylacuaga that served workers idled by the Avondale Mills shutdown will close on Tuesday.
The Avondale Re-Employment Center will close, but a center in nearby Talladega remains open, officials said.
Gwen Taylor, a spokeswoman for the Sylacauga center, said about 3,000 individuals signed in to take advantage of the re-employment services offered.
About 50 individuals started college in August, and another 50 enrolled for the January semester, she said. About 25 more attended truck driving classes to obtain commercial licenses.
