Franklin County jury convicts man in motherís 2000 slaying

RUSSELLVILLE (AP) — A Franklin County jury has convicted a 36-year-old man of murder in the slaying of his mother almost seven years ago.

Henry Roger Jones was charged with capital murder and first-degree burglary in the death of 53-year-old Bonnie Parker Jones in January 2000.

The jury late Friday convicted Jones of felony murder and the burglary charge, which are both felonies, punishable by 20 years to life in prison.

District Attorney Joey Rushing said the lesser charge of felony murder must have meant that jurors believe Jones intended only to steal from his mother before a scuffle ensued and she was shot.
