LifeSouth holding holiday blood drive

LifeSouth is holding its Media LifeLine blood drive this week to inform the public of a crucial need for blood during the holiday season.

Blood centers see a marked drop in donors during the holidays while the need for blood rises because of increased travel, causing shortages across the nation.

The drive at LifeSouth's Decatur donor center, 1016 Somerville Road S.E., will run through Dec. 30. Center hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Donors must be at least 17, weigh 110 pounds and show a photo ID. All donors will receive a recognition item and cholesterol screening for their support. For more information, call toll free (888) 795-2707 or visit www.lifesouth.org.
