Limestone County commissioners put plans for courthouse renovation on hold

The Limestone County Commission is not willing to spend $5 million renovating the courthouse, a move that would close the building for up to two
years.

At Monday's commission meeting, Chairman David Seibert said the commission will look at other options on the 36,000-square-foot building in the heart of Athens.

He said the commission would, however, move forward with plans to add a sprinkler system to the building at an estimated cost of $46,000.

Seibert said the commission would probably renovate the courthouse in sections because it can't afford to close the entire courthouse at one time.
