Randy Brinson new state chair of Christian Coalition
MONTGOMERY (AP) — The Christian Coalition of Alabama has a new state chairman, the coalition's national organization confirmed Thursday.
Dr. Randy Brinson, a Montgomery doctor and head of a nonprofit organization, accepted the position a few days ago after being courted by leaders of the Christian Coalition of Am-erica for several months, the Montgomery Advertiser reported on its Web site Thursday.
"Randy is a compassionate person and he's dedicated to family values, so we're excited to have him on board,'' said Roberta Combs, president of Christian Coalition of America.
John Giles, the Christian Coalition of Alabama's former president, cut ties with the national organization four months ago, saying the organization was deviating from its core principles.
He formed Christian Action Alabama but announced he would resign from that group at the end of the year to pursue ``private sector or public policy opportunities,'' the Advertiser reported.
Brinson is the chairman of Redeem the Vote, a group based in Montgomery that urges young people of faith to vote.
