A man struck by a car while standing on a roadway following a motor vehicle accident early Friday remained in critical condition at Huntsville Hospital, Decatur police said.

The unidentified Hispanic male lost control of his car on Alabama 67 near Hickory Hills Road and struck a guardrail. The car came to rest in the highway's northbound lanes, police said.

The driver exited the vehicle and was standing in a poorly lit area in the left northbound lane when a northbound car struck him at about 4:23 a.m., police said.

The driver of the second vehicle, Brian Davis, 33, of Somer-
ville, was not injured in the collision with the car and the unidentified man.

Davis had seen the damaged car in the roadway and swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision, police said.

The victim, whose name police did not release pending notification of family members, was taken by ambulance to Decatur General Hospital and later transferred to Huntsville Hospital.

Police said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
