7-year-old boy accidentally shot to death
MOBILE (AP) — A 7-year-old boy died after being accidentally shot over the holiday weekend, marking at least the second time this month that a child has been shot to death in Baldwin and Mobile counties.
Baldwin County Coroner Huey Mack Sr. told the Press-Register the boy died about noon Sunday after he was shot near Robertsdale.
The caliber of the gun and information about what led to the boy's death were not immediately available.
The body was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, where an autopsy was planned.
Mack referred all questions about the shooting and the child's identity to the Baldwin County Sheriff's Department.
Jamie Thompson, an investigator with the medical examiner's office in Escambia County, Florida, confirmed the boy's death Monday afternoon.
"I have a 7-year-old boy that was accidentally shot," Thompson said.
