ELKMONT — When a son failed to heed a warning shot that his father fired into the electric
stove, he received a shot to the knee, authorities said.

Limestone County sheriff's Lt. Brad Curnutt said that on Christmas Eve, the son allegedly consumed alcohol all day.

He identified the son as Steven Malone, 36, of 25005 Elkton Road, Elkmont.

"He was driving up and down the road, aggravating folks," Curnutt said. "Then he decided that night to kick in his daddy's door."

The son lives near his father.

Curnutt said the 60-year-old dad asked Malone to leave, but Malone refused.

Shot to knee

"The dad fired a warning shot into the stove, and the son still wouldn't leave," Curnutt said. "So, the dad shot him in the right knee."

Athens-Limestone Hospital treated Malone and then sent him to Huntsville Hospital.

After Huntsville released Malone, authorities charged him with third-degree burglary.

He is out of jail on $2,000 bond.

"We're not charging the dad," Curnutt said.

"He asked the boy to get out and fired a warning shot, but the boy wouldn't listen."
