In poll, most say Saddam should hang

About 6 in 10 respondents to an online poll said Saddam Hussein should be hanged.

Iraq's courts have sentenced the country's former dictator to hang for the killing of 148 people in 1982.

The two-day poll ended Thursday at www.decaturdai
ly.com. Of 294 readers responding, 175 (59.5 percent) answered yes to the question "Should Saddam Hussein be hanged?" A total of 119 answered no.

The poll was unscientific, and people could vote from anywhere.

"If we and the Iraqis are smart, Saddam will be hanged immediately," reader Perry D. Walker of Priceville wrote by e-mail.

"If it is delayed, the radical media in the Middle East will raise a hue and soon we'll all be discussing whether he really deserves the sentence or not. It will be best to do it quickly before the media frenzy begins."
