Ambulance service owner facing charge

The owner of an ambulance service with an office in Decatur is expected in a Morgan County court on Thursday to answer to a possible contempt of court charge.

David Childers, owner of Med-Call, said he stopped transporting a dialysis patient almost a year ago after a judge ordered him to cease operating in Decatur without a certificate of need from the city. Although Childers has a current business license for his administrative office in Decatur, Mark Craig, an attorney representing the city, said Childers violated the order by transporting the patient and by operating out of an office here.

Childers said the violation was a misunderstanding and that he doesn't answer calls in Decatur or its police jurisdiction. He said his Decatur office is merely for administrative
duties.
