Half-clothed body found by fishermen in Riverside

RIVERSIDE (AP) — Police were still working to identify a man whose half-clothed body was found about 100 yards from U.S. 78, officials said Thursday.

An autopsy is scheduled Friday at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville and the man's fingerprints will be sent to an FBI lab. Two men on a fishing trip found the body Wednesday .

St. Clair County Sheriff Terry Surles estimated the man had been dead for about a week, but said the degree of decomposition didn't correlate.

"Part of his body was pretty badly decomposed, but other parts weren't as bad," Surles said. "He had been rained on, though."

The men found the body as they tried to fish in nearby ponds.

Surles said the 6-foot tall man had an untrimmed gray beard and weighed between 200- and 225 pounds.
