Robber causes alarm at convenience store

A robber inadvertently set off a store's burglar alarm while intimidating a man who was reluctant to hand over his cell phone, Decatur police said Monday.

The robbery took place outside the Busy Bee convenience store, 1910 19th Ave. S.E., at about 5 a.m. Sunday, said police spokesman Lt. Chris Mathews.

James Morris, 52, told police a white male walked up and demanded his phone. When he refused, the man threw a tire iron at him and missed, striking the store window and setting off the alarm.

Morris decided to hand over the phone, police said.

The suspect left the scene in a red 90s model Honda Accord.
