Sleet in Valley forecast

Sleet is in the forecast, but don't expect it to stick.

The National Weather Service issued a statement Wednesday calling for light rain mixed with sleet continuing into Thursday morning, mostly south of the Tennessee River and east of Interstate 65. The weather service said travel shouldn't be a problem because ground temperatures are too warm to allow accumulation.

For travelers headed south, the weather service said bridges and overpasses near Birmingham could experience some icing.

Sleet re-enters the forecast early next week. There is a 50 percent chance of rain or sleet Sunday night and a 20 percent chance Monday.
