Argument about smell leads to attack

The assault of a woman with a broken bottle apparently stemmed from her disagreement with a fellow partygoer about what was creating a stench, Decatur police said Wednesday.

The 30-year-old victim told police the attack took place at a party at a residence in the 200 block of Blue Bird Lane Southwest on Saturday night.

Lt. Chris Mathews, a police spokesman, said the woman saw an acquaintance smoking marijuana, and "she told him that the marijuana stank."

"She said the suspect then told her she stank, and he punched her in the head. The suspect also picked up a glass bottle, broke it, and cut her right hand and her big toe on her left foot," Mathews said.

It was unknown whether the victim sought medical treatment. Police advised her on warrant procedures.
