Slain state trooper buried
WEBB (AP) — Friends and family on Thursday remembered Jennifer Shirley Jacobs, an Alabama state trooper shot to death by her ex-husband a week earlier.
More than 800 people, most of them law enforcement officers, gathered at New Freedom Church in Webb for the 30-year-old's funeral Thursday morning.
Jacobs' mother, Sandra Peacock, accepted the tightly folded flag that had been draped over her daughter's casket from a state trooper.
Jacobs had been an officer with the Alabama Department of Public Safety in Dothan for the last few months.
Officials have said Farrell Scott Jacobs, 36, fatally shot Jennifer Jacobs with a handgun when she went to take custody of their son.
The incident was apparently the result of a court ruling that awarded Jennifer Jacobs primary custody of the son. The ex-husband shot himself after Ozark police arrived.
