Public forum in Athens on BRAC

ATHENS — There’s one word you’ve heard local officials spout time and again the past year: BRAC.

On Thursday, you can learn what impact officials expect that acronym to have on the community.

The Limestone County Base Realignment and Closure Executive Committee is hosting a public forum at Athens State University’s McCandless Hall at 4:30 p.m.

Local groups will present a preliminary five-year plan on how many families they expect to locate here and how to address that influx.

The groups that will present plans are the Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce, Limestone County Schools, city of Athens and Athens Utilities, Limestone County Commission Chairman and Limestone County Water and Sewer Authority.
