Decatur Heritage names Lee queen

Candace Lee, a Decatur Heritage Christian Academy senior, stood out in two ways Saturday at the school’s girls basketball game.

Lee was named homecoming queen before the game, in which she led all scorers with 21 points. But Muscle Shoals won the game 51-40.

Lee is the daughter of Darrel and Kelly Lee.

Fires damage 3 Valley homes

Three house fires kept Tennessee Valley firefighters busy Sunday, but no one was injured.

Decatur firefighters extinguished an attic fire shortly after 5 p.m. at a home in the 400 block of Sherman Street Southeast.

While they were working there, an apartment blaze in the 2800 block of Wimberly Drive erupted in a bedroom.

The American Red Cross assisted the apartment’s occupant with needs that resulted from the fire, firefighters said.

In Limestone County, volunteer firefighters from East Limestone and Tanner attempted to save a home in the 23000 block of Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road.

The family reportedly returned home to the smell of smoke and someone called 911 shortly before 1 a.m.

Firefighters worked to save the structure for more than an hour, but the house succumbed to smoke and flames.
