Indian Hills Golf course gets repairs

Fairway improvements are under way at Indian Hills Golf Course.

The course closed the back nine holes this winter so it could replace the fairways on the 10th, 11th and 13th holes, said Cleo Teague, Indian Hills owner. When the fairways are finished, crews will rebuild the tee boxes on holes two and eight.

"Just catching up on maintenance," he said. "I hope it's done by March 1 so we can get on with fertilizing and stuff like that for the spring."

Buseness suffered

Business at the course last summer and fall suffered, Teague said, because of the news that Tuscaloosa developer Joe Duckworth Sr. proposed transforming the course into an upscale residential community surrounding a new championship level golf course. The proposal was contingent upon a land-swap agreement with Decatur Country Club. The club overwhelmingly voted against it.

Teague said many people mistakenly believed he had closed the course, which hurt business.

Duckwork still has a contract option to buy the property on Burleson Mountain until March 1, but he said there is no active pursuit of a development.
