Alzheimerís group memorial Monday

On Monday the Alzheimerís Support Group will remember those with the disease or with dementia who passed away in 2006.

The Rev. Sandra Locke-Godbey will lead the 7 p.m. meeting at the Mental Health Association Office at 207 Commerce Circle S.W.

Those who had a family member die in 2006 who had Alzheimerís disease or dementia can include their loved one in the memorial by calling 353-1160. Attendance at the meeting is not required to have a loved one remembered at the meeting.

School band seeks talent entries

CAPSHAW — A local school band is inviting area artists to showcase their talent.

The East Limestone Band Boosters are accepting entries for the sixth annual East Limestone Talent Show.

Bands, dancers and vocal and musical soloists can compete. The boosters will award cash prizes.

The show will be Feb. 24 at the schoolís gym.

Entry fee is $25 per single entry or $30 for two or more.

Mail entries to Jennifer Janzen, 15641 East Limestone Road, Athens, AL, 35613.

Entries must have a postmark by Feb. 17.

Benefit will aid cancer victim

SALEM — A community will make music, stew and barbecue to help a man fighting cancer.

The West Limestone Community Benefit for Ralph Davis will be Feb. 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Limestone Volunteer Fire Department on Alabama 99.

Davis is receiving treatment at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio for a cancerous tumor on his kidney.

He has only one kidney.

The benefit is to raise money for his medical bills.

Rickey Craig will make goat stew. There also will be barbecue chicken plates, whole cakes and pies and a silent auction.

Bring lawn chairs for the entertainment that will start at noon.

Athens seeking shirt art entries

ATHENS — Want to see your artwork on a T-shirt?

Hereís your chance.

Art on the Square Inc. is holding a contest to consider artwork for the T-shirt design for the second annual Art on the Square event.

The winning design and artist also will be a featured on the AOTS Web site.

Entries should reflect art on Athensí square. Submit entries by March 15 by mailing them to Art on the Square Inc., P.O. Box 1560, Athens, AL 35612.

AOTS will announce the winner March 30.

The Art on the Square event will be Sept. 8.

Commercial driver test sites change

The state Department of Public Safety is consolidating services for commercial driver license applicants by opening testing centers in Decatur and Cullman, according to news reports.

The agency closed itís Hartselle office permanently Wednesday.

Commercial driver skill tests will be offered at the Decatur Driver License offices, open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Tests will be administered both at the Cullman driver license office at the Cullman County Courthouse and at the Cullman Agricultural Center at 17645 U.S. 31.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office closes each day at noon for half an hour.
