From one hero to another

Mary Maze, Jerry Maze and Vernon Clifton, members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4190 and the Ladies Auxiliary in Decatur, box donated items Wednesday to be sent to the 1169th Engineer Corps, Alabama National Guard, stationed in Iraq.

The VFW and the Ladies Auxiliary collected canned and non-perishable foods, toiletries, batteries, vitamins and more than 400 pounds of candy from students at East Lawrence schools to mail to troops from Lawrence, Morgan, Madison and Marshall counties.

The VFW and the Ladies Auxiliary combined have more than 1,000 members in the Decatur area who regularly host fundraisers in support of active troops and veterans.

Their next project is to collect items to deliver to the Tutt Fann Veterans nursing home in Huntsville on Feb. 17. For more information on how you can help, call the VFW at 351-8929.
