Anglers happy with tournament, survey finds

The Decatur-Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau was overwhelmed by the response it received from guest surveys it sent to participants in its most recent fishing tournament.

More than 100 out of 400 anglers from the FLW Stren Series Championship responded to questionnaires, and nearly all had strong praise of Ingalls Harbor and the city’s hospitality, said bureau President Tami Reist.

The survey asked for comments on their stay as well as specific questions about their incomes, the number of people in their parties and the amount they spent in Decatur.

That last question showed 80 of the 115 responders spent $500 or more and 39 of those spent more than $1,000. The highest amount was more than $2,900.

One angler from Indiana wrote, “New ramp and weigh-in area best I have ever used and I have tourney fished for 20 years.”

Some of the responses will be used as marketing testimonials, Reist said, and others will help tourism and hospitality officials make improvements.

Reist has added regular surveys of all major tourism events as a marketing tool. In the near future, she wants to add regular one-on-one interviews with corporate travelers.
