Brookhaven Spelling Bee

Brookhaven Middle School announces its Spelling Bee winners. Eighth-grader Jessica King won first place. Seventh-grader Jessica England was the runner-up.

Hosier on deanís list

Carrie Hosier of Decatur has been named to the deanís list at Jefferson State Community College for the 2006 fall term. She is attending Jefferson State on a softball scholarship.

She is the daughter of Randy and Angie Hosier. Her grandparents are Robert Nancy Hosier, Courtney Nipper and the late Carrie Nipper.

Reeves honored

Jessica Reeves of Decatur has been named to the deanís list at Lee University, Cleveland, Tenn., for the 2006 fall term. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Reeves.

Briscoe on deanís list

Maggie Briscoe of Decatur has been named to the deanís list at Millsaps College, Jackson, Miss., for the 2006 fall term. She is the daughter of Deborah and Bill Briscoe and is a 2003 graduate of Randolph School.

Wise honored

Maddox Wise has been named to the ďAĒ honor roll at Oak Park Middle School for the second nine weeks. She is in seventh grade.

Austinville 4-H winners

These students from Austinville Elementary School were winners at recent 4-H competitions.

Baked foods, fourth grade: Kristian Mears and Jacob Wiley, first place; Taj Tiggs and Taylor Whisenant, second place; Drew Allen and Tamija Tiggs, third place.

Baked foods, fifth grade: Matthew Moody, first place.

Handicrafts, fourth grade: Sarah Rawlings, first place, models; Kristian Mears, first place, drawings/paintings; Jill Noble, second place, drawings/paintings.

Handicrafts, fifth grade: Aaliyah Prince, Nidia Saavedra, first place, picture boxes; Promise Sykes, first place, collage; Diamond Robinson, first place, game; Eric Marchan, first place, knitting/cross-stitching.
