Update passport before traveling, Cramer says
U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer, D-Huntsville, is reminding North Alabama residents planning to travel outside the U.S. to make sure their passports are up to date.
The U.S. Departments of State and Homeland Security recently updated passport requirements. Effective immediately, anyone traveling between the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central and South America and Bermuda must have a passport.
As a result of the new policy, there has been an increased demand for passports.
Passports usually take six to eight weeks to issue.
The rule doesn’t apply to U.S. citizens traveling and returning from U.S. territories, which include Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Swains Island and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
