Alabama man held in stabbing death of Mississippi resident

COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — A Vernon, Ala., man faces a manslaughter charge in the stabbing death of a Columbus man, authorities said.

Officers said Ray Riggins, 38, was being held by the Lamar County, Ala., Sheriff's Department.

Todd D. Lawrence, 31, was stabbed several times after an alleged altercation with Riggins, the officers said.

Deputies said Lawrence was found at an intersection in Vernon after Riggins called Lamar County 911 late Friday afternoon.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the case remained under investigation.
