Athens police host open house Sunday

ATHENS — On a typical day, a citizen would encounter locked doors and other security measures if he tried to walk through the Athens Police Department.

On Sunday, however, police will welcome your curiosity about the new building.

The department is holding an open house from 2 to 5 p.m.

Capt. Marty Bruce said the public can tour the $2.95-million facility and meet the departmentís employees.

Refreshment will be available.

The department is on Hobbs Street across from Athens City Cemetery.

Dube named new childrenís minister

Teri Dube is the new childrenís minister at St. Paulís Lutheran Church. A native of Houston, she is a graduate of Texas A&M University and earned a director of Christian education certification at Concordia University in Austin, Texas. Dube served an internship at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin.

She will be commissioned and installed at services Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday at 8:15, 9:20 and 10:45 a.m.
