Hillsboro woman charged in jewelry theft

MOULTON — Lawrence County sheriff's investigators arrested a Hillsboro woman in a jewelry theft case Wednesday, Sheriff Gene Mitchell said.

The victim told police a recent visitor to her residence on Lawrence County 91 in the Wren community might have taken the $3,600 worth of jewelry, but she wasn't sure which visitor was responsible, Mitchell said.

Investigators narrowed the list of suspects to one person, Mitchell said.

During questioning, Ruby Nicole Cartee, a frequent visitor to the residence, gave information and details that supported her involvement in the offense, Mitchell said.

Investigators charged Cartee, 24, of 1569 Lawrence County 388 with first-degree theft. She was released from Lawrence County Jail on $2,000 bond.
