Jones on deanís list

Laura-Marie Jones of Trinity has been named to the deanís list at Lee University, Cleveland, Tenn., for the 2006 fall semester. She is the daughter of Waymon and Bobbie Jean Jones. To be eligible for the list, a student must maintain at least a 3.7 grade point average.

Hartwig receives degree

Allison Hartwig of Decatur has received her bachelorís degree from Lipscomb University in Nashville. Her degree was conferred at the Dec. 16 commencement exercises.

Kantamneni with GIP

Soumya Kantamneni of Decatur is interning with the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority in Atlanta for one academic term as part of the Governorís Intern Program. She is majoring in political science at Oglethorpe University. Her parents are Babu and Anita Kantamneni.

UNA/3M scholarships

The University of North Alabama awarded scholarships to Presidential Mentors Academy students on behalf of 3M. These area students received scholarships:

Mallory King and Karlos Rogers, both of Decatur, and Derrick Hallmark of Mount Hope.

DMC scholarships

Decatur Music Club is accepting applications for its annual scholarships. The first place award is $500; second, $400; and third, $300. Exceptional students in grades nine through 12 may compete as pianists, vocalists or instrumentalists.

Applicants must be residents of Morgan County or study with a teacher who is a Music Club member. Scholarship winners must perform for the club.

Feb. 28 is the deadline for applications, and auditions will be held March 11. Applications are available by e-mail, bibi2600 or at Emiron Music.

Parker on deanís list

Sara Kathleen Parker of Priceville has been named to the deanís list at The University of Montevallo for the 2006 fall term. To be eligible for the list, a student must maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average. She received a valedictorian/salutatorian scholarship equivalent and the Patrick Gordon Smith Memorial Scholarship.

McGuire honored

Rayna McGuire has been named to the ďAĒ honor roll at Brookhaven Middle School for the second nine weeks. She is in eighth grade.

Montgomery on list

Brittany Montgomery of Decatur has been named to the presidentís list at Southern Union State Community College for the 2006 fall semester. To be eligible for the list, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average.

Wallace State honors

These Hartselle students were named to the presidentís list at Wallace State Community College for the 2006 fall term:

Christal Dekich, Ashley Doyle, Whitney Hayes, Jesse Hill, Alexandra Hines, Becki Hines, Janet Lovett, Nicholas McCollum, Jessi McFarland, Sarah McNutt, Bama Mitchell, James Rushen, Bobbie Waldrep, Christopher Wallace and Jessica Woodruff.

Oliver gets scholarship

Laura Elizabeth Oliver of Moulton has been awarded an academic scholarship to The University of North Alabama.

She is a senior at Lawrence County High School, where she is class salutatorian, a member of the National Honor Society and on the ďAĒ honor roll. She is also drum major of the marching band, in the top 10 of her class and was recognized by ďWhoís Who Among American High School Students.Ē

Oliver is the daughter of Gary and Teresa Oliver.
