Referee honors Tanner player

TANNER — A referee tired of hearing football players mouth off, curse and run down the other team decided to honor a player who does none of those things.

That referee, Mark White, who also is owner of Tortillas Blanco in Athens, asked Limestone County and Athens coaches to nominate a player for the Tortillas Blanco Good Sportsmanship Award. The first recipient is Keith Shoulders, a player for Tanner High School.

Shoulders received his award at Tanner’s football banquet on Thursday.

“He never says anything back and is a leader,” said Tanner Coach Laron White. “You can count on him to do what you ask. I think this award will inspire other kids to become better citizens.”
