Missing woman's body found in car trunk

FORT PAYNE. (AP) — The body of a missing Guntersville woman who left her home for a shopping trip was found early Monday in the trunk of her car in Fort Payne, authorities said.

Marshall County authorities had issued an appeal Sunday for the public's help in locating Shirley Sumrall, 70, who was reported missing about 11 a.m. Saturday when she left home to shop in Gadsden. John Young, an investigator with the Marshall County district attorney's office, said Sumrall's body was found about 1 a.m. Monday.

Young said the tan 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis was left in the parking lot of DeKalb Regional Medical Center.
