PRICEVILLE — The Priceville Town Council on Thursday approved by a 4-2 vote spending $2,400 for a convention in Huntsville, including the cost of three hotel rooms.

The money covers registration for Mayor Melvin Duran, Town Clerk Kelly Dean, Deputy Clerk Linda Duran and each of the five council members, plus other travel expenses for the annual Alabama League of Municipalities convention on April 21-24.

Councilmen Tim Crow and John Oakley cast the opposing votes, saying afterwards that lodging shouldn’t be required for such a short drive.

However, the mayor said the money included only three rooms: one for him and his wife, Linda Duran, for three nights, one for Dean for three nights, and one for Councilman Wayne Dunkin for two nights.

“We need the rooms because of the training sessions we’ll be involved in, and I’ll be a moderator for some of them,” Duran said.

“The majority of the money the council approved is for the registrations.”
