Athens man allegedly scuffled with officers

ATHENS — An Athens man discovered that refusing to completely dress and put on shoes and then scuffling with officers is no way to avoid jail.

Capt. Marty Bruce said officers Doug Duren and Johnny Campbell went to Anthony Prescott Malone’s home Tuesday to serve a warrant from Huntsville police. Malone, 40, lives at 1213 Somerest Drive.

Bruce said the warrant was for a violation of a protection order regarding Malone’s ex-wife.

“After officers placed Malone under arrest for the warrant, he refused to get dressed and then refused to put his shoes on,” Bruce said.

“Malone became uncooperative and started to fight the officers.”

The officers were not injured.

Malone was in the county jail Wednesday, awaiting transfer to Huntsville. Athens police added a resisting arrest charge. His bond on that is $1,000.
