Astronaut makes emergency landing
After stopping to refuel a NASA T-38 airplane at Huntsville International Airport on Thursday afternoon, astronaut Scott Altman noticed the warning light indicating his landing gear didn't retract.
Johnson Space Center spokesman James Hartsfield said Altman returned to the airport and landed without incident.
After a quick discussion with a Huntsville mechanic, he continued to Houston, with his landing gear down, and completed his flight.
NASA has assigned Altman to command the final Space Shuttle mission to the Hubble Space Telescope. The mission will extend and improve the observatory's capabilities through 2013. Launch is scheduled for September 2008.
