Haley Miller of Hartselle, Green and Gold Scholarship. She is a senior at Hartselle High School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. She is the daughter of Tony and Melinda Miller.
Kristen Faulk of Hartselle, Blazing Scholars Award. She is a senior at Hartselle High School and is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. She is the daughter of Teresa Faulk.
Laura Oliver of Moulton, University Scholars Award. She is a senior
at Lawrence County High School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society and Leo Club. She is the daughter of Gary and Teresa Oliver.
Jaya Madhav of Decatur,
UAB Scholars Award. She is a senior at Austin High School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. She is the daughter of Ramesh and Bhakti Madhav.

Cayla Buttram of Trinity, academic. She is a senior at East Lawrence High School and is the daughter of Mike and Lisa Buttram.
Skylar Hyatt of Decatur, academic. She is a senior at Decatur High School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society, “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” and the National Honor Roll. She is the daughter of Gary and Deb Hyatt.
Austin Alumni scholarships

Artwork by Joseph Mears and Hayley Miller will be on display at the state Senate or the state House of Representatives for a full year for the Alabama State House Legislative Club Exhibition. These students represent Morgan County, and a reception will be held in Montgomery in their honor.
Reading Council winners
Four area students were winners in the Tennessee Valley Reading Council’s Children’s Book Week Writing Contest.

Grades 3-5: Allyson Grace Burgess, Barkley Bridge Elementary School, Hartselle.
Grades 6-8: Sidney Finklea, Ryan Junior High School.

Rian Gackstetter won the Arbor Day Art Competition at Austinville Elementary School. Her entry will go to the state competition and she will participate in a tree planting ceremony at Austinville Elementary School to be held by the Decatur Landscape and Beautification Committee.

AHS HOBY winner
Lauren Little has been selected as Austin High School’s Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership representative for 2007. She is the daughter of Larry and Melanie Little, Jack Roberson was named the alternate youth leadership representative. He is the son of Jack and Remona Roberson.
Lauren and Jack have been invited to attend the Alabama Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference to be held in May at Troy University.
Krista Thompson will represent Austin High School at the Alabama Youth Leadership Program to be held at Auburn University Montgomery this June. Leslie Kirk and Justin Jones were also chosen as finalists for these youth leadership honors.
Hornberger on dean’s list
Jennifer Hornberger of Athens has been named to the dean’s list at the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering for the 2006 fall term. To be eligible for the list, a student must maintain at least a 3.25 grade point average.
