Limestone County selects top schoolteachers of year

Each Limestone County school chose a teacher of the year for 2007-08. A committee chose the top two from that group, an Elementary Teacher of the Year and Secondary Teacher of the Year.

The committee chose Kaye Dorning of Creekside Elementary as the Elementary Teacher of the Year. Dorning has taught third grade at Creekside for four years and has taught in the Limestone system for 25 years.

“Each day is a new adventure with the ending determined by my guidance,” Dorning said. “We mold the future for all mankind in our words, hugs, winks, smiles.”

The committee chose Brian Terry of the Limestone Career Technical Center as the Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Terry has taught design drafting technology at the center for 18 years and at Calhoun Community College for seven years.

“A teacher’s influence on each student’s motivation and confidence lasts far beyond high school and is often unknown until years after high school,” Terry said. “A visit and a former student’s success story is a great teaching accomplishment that provides self-satisfaction.”
