Lee County child dies after ATV strikes utility pole wire

SALEM (AP) — A 10-year-old boy died from massive head injuries when an all-terrain vehicle flipped on top of him.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said Josh Evans of Salem was riding alone about 4:30 p.m. Saturday at a friend's home when he apparently looked away from his direction of travel and struck a utility pole guide wire. The ATV ran up the wire and then flipped on its side, landing on top of the boy, Harris said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
