Moulton man dies after stabbing

By Melanie B. Smith · 340-2468

MOULTON — A Moulton man died Saturday after a woman stabbed him at a house where both were visiting, according to police.

Jimmy Phillip Naylor, 39, died at Decatur General Hospital, said Micah Coffey, Lawrence County coroner.

Police charged Naylor’s brother’s ex-wife, Christy Coleman Naylor, 37, 1205 Fremont St. S.W., Decatur, with manslaughter, said Moulton Police Chief Lyndon McWhorter.

The woman stabbed Naylor in the arm sometime Friday night or early Saturday morning at 1310 Lawrence County 213, McWhorter said.

The chief said no one got immediate medical attention for Jimmy Phillip Naylor.

The owner of the residence told police that he was asleep and did not witness the stabbing. He said that when he got up this morning, he found Christy Naylor gone and the victim injured but alive.

McWhorter said that officers got a tip and found her at a residence between Moulton and Decatur.

Christy Naylor was in the Lawrence County Jail on Saturday. No bond had been set.

Officers collected a couple of knives at the scene, said the police chief.

The stabbing is still under investigation and charges could be upgraded to murder, McWhorter said.

The chief said he understood that the victim had been living with his parents on Walnut Street.

He said others assisting are Tim McWhorter, chief investigator for the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, and Alabama Bureau of Investigation officers.

An autopsy is being performed, Coffey said.
