Rotary Club establishes Athens State scholarship

ATHENS — The Athens Rotary Club established a scholarship to assist students attending Athens State University.

The club completed a $10,000 endowed schol-arship when it presented University President Jerry Bartlett a check for $4,000.

The scholarship will be awarded through the Athens State University Foundation. The club’s scholarship committee will select the student.

The scholarship will be available to students of all academic disciplines who are in good academic standing. The club intends to contrib-ute $500 annually to help another student with tuition and fees.

“We are grateful to the Athens Rotary Club, its board of directors and its membership for its support of Athens State,” Bartlett said.

This year, the foundation awarded more than 100 annual or endowed scholarships donated corporately or by individuals. Criteria vary but might include grade-point average, field of study, student involvement and financial need.
