ATHENS — Celebrate Women’s History Month with music, art and a movie.
Athens State University is holding public events this month to recognize the role of women in national history and culture. The theme is “Generations of Women Moving History Forward.”
The event times and information:
Tuesday, noon — Art exhibit and reception in the Sandridge Center Art Gallery. Female artists from Athens State, Alabama A&M, Oakwood, Calhoun, other schools and local artisans will present their work.
Thursday, 7 p.m. — HBO movie “Iron Jawed Angels” showing in the Sandridge Center ballroom. The film deals with the suffragette movement in the early years of the 20th century and stars Hilary Swank and Anjelica Huston.
March 14, noon — Poetry read-in at the ballroom.
March 15, 7 p.m. — The Huntsville Feminist Chorus will perform in McCandless Hall auditorium. The group is an a cappella chorus specializing in songs that empower women.
