A bloody quarrel at a local nightclub sent two men to the hospital early Sunday, Decatur police said.
Police called to New Frontier on U.S. 31 South shortly after midnight arrived to find a large crowd in the parking lot, said Lt. Chris Mathews, a police spokesman.
At the center of the scuffle, officers found three security guards pinning down a 35-year-old Decatur man who allegedly had struck another man in the face with a beer bottle, Mathews said. The victim, a 33-year-old Decatur man, was taken to Decatur General Hospital for treatment.
"The victim had a large gash in his face and was bleeding badly. He had about a four-inch gash," Mathews said.
"The victim told us the disturbance actually started at Our Place Bar and Grill. Apparently, (the suspect) had made a derogatory comment about the victim's weight. They left Our Place and, by chance, both ended up at New Frontier. A witness saw (the suspect) hit the victim in the face with a beer bottle," Mathews said.
The suspect was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. He was taken to Decatur General Hospital where he received stitches for cuts and treatment for a possible broken nose suffered during the fight, Mathews said. Decatur City Jail later released him on $1,000 bond.
