Daily readers favor lottery for Alabama
An overwhelming majority of readers responding to a Daily online poll favor Alabama having a state lottery.
The poll, which ended at 5 p.m. Friday, asked, “Should Alabama have a state lottery?” More than 83 percent, or 495 voters, answered yes. Just less than 17 percent, or 101 voters, were opposed.
The poll at www.decaturdaily.com was unscientific.
In 1999, Alabama voters rejected a proposed state lottery, 54 percent to 46 percent.
