Tornado plans for Decatur schools

Decatur City Schools

Austin High: Classes in the E and M buildings go to the interior cross-halls and restrooms. E building has an adult restroom and closets in two science labs available. Classes in Jones Gymnasium and the auditorium go to the halls, avoiding the lobbies. Business building classes go to interior rooms. Classes in the 14 portable classrooms have assigned places in the gym, auditorium, cafeteria restroom, library, guidance counseling office and main office.

Austinville Elementary: Most students go to the center hall between the cafeteria and music room or the center hall facing the left wing. Kindergarten and first grades in the left wing and fourth and fifth grades in the right wing go to the halls outside their classrooms.

Banks-Caddell Elementary: Everyone moves to the first-floor hall, two large restrooms and a workroom.

Brookhaven Middle School: Students go to the large hallway entering the pods. Related arts classes use the hall to the gym. Physical education classes go to the basement of the gym.

Cedar Ridge Middle School: Most students move to downstairs hallways, avoiding the main lobby. Sixth-grade students go to an interior classroom.

Chestnut Grove Elementary: Students go to inner classrooms, restrooms and a small reading room and a teacher workroom in the office.

Decatur High: Students move to downstairs interior halls, avoiding a south hall breezeway and other window areas.

Eastwood Elementary: Students go to the halls, hiding in areas with a solid wall in back and front of them. Classes in the portables move into the main building, going to the halls and restrooms.

Julian Harris Elementary: Kindergarten and first grades go to restrooms in their classrooms. Second grades go to the hallway in the office. Grades three to five go to halls, staying away from lobby.

Frances Nungester Elementary: Students hide in restrooms, storage areas and conference rooms.

Leon Sheffield Elementary: Students go to the halls. Music and art students go to an area outside the music room and a boys restroom.

Oak Park Middle School: Students go to the large hallway entering the pods. Related arts classes use the hall to the gym. Physical education classes go to the basement of the gym.

Walter Jackson Elementary: Students go to the two main hallways and restrooms, avoiding the lobby.

West Decatur Elementary: Students go to hallways, avoiding the front hallway.

Woodmeade Elementary: Students go to the halls, in areas with a solid wall in back and front of them.

Private schools

Decatur Heritage Christian Academy: Upper school students go to hallways, restrooms and gym. Lower school students go to the upper school, if time permits. If not, they go to the hallways.

St. Ann Catholic School: Kindergarten students go to a restroom in the classroom. First grade goes to a room near the office. Second and third grades go to a restroom in the first-floor hallway. Grades four to eight in classrooms upstairs go to the basement floor.
