Speed thrills

With their speed and good looks, 74 cars wowed mall patrons in the Cub Scout Arrowhead District’s annual Pinewood Derby race Saturday at Colonial Mall in Decatur. Race organizers say this year’s turnout, the first ever at the mall, was the largest ever for the district. When the dust had settled and the last checkered flag waved, Wolf scout Kyle Budisalich of Pack 275 in Priceville carried home the largest trophy for having the fastest car from the Lawrence, Limestone and Morgan counties district. Three scouts from Pack 24 in Athens, from left, Webelos I Andruw Lawson, Wolf Grant Taylor and Wolf Zarley Lawson challenged each other in a fun race after the competition was concluded.
