Madison murder charge dropped
HUNTSVILLE (AP) — Murder charges against a man accused of beating a homeless woman to death were dropped Monday because of insufficient evidence, the Madison County District Attorney's Office announced in a press release.
The trial for Edgar Fore III, 40, of Madison was scheduled to start in circuit court Monday. Fore was charged in the murder of Jennifer Butcher, 23, who was found dead in December.
2003. A maintenance worker found Butcher's body under a vacant house. Forensic testing revealed Butcher died in late September or early October 2003.
Fore was arrested in September 2004 and indicted in December 2005. The grand jury also indicted Terry Lee Kelly, 40, of Huntsville. Kelly is also awaiting trial for capital murder in an unrelated case.
Prosecutors say Kelly robbed and fatally shot retired University of Alabama in Huntsville art professor Jack Dempsey, 76, at his home in October 2003. Kelly was indicted on that charge in September 2004. Shonda Jean Moody, who is charged with capital murder as Kelly's accomplice in the Dempsey death, was expected to testify in Fore's trial this week.
Kelly and Moody are being held in the county jail without bond.
