Singing on the Square

ATHENS — Put a jacket and lawn chair in the car and head out Friday to downtown Athens.

The monthly Singing on the Square returns to its outside venue near the courthouse.

“It might be a little chilly, but no worse than going to the ball park,” said Tourism Director Jeannette Rich.

Family of Praise will perform at 6:30 p.m. and The Trinity Believers at 7:30 p.m. The event is free.

Three downtown restaurants will be open. They are Tortillas Blanco, Sassy’s Fraz and Pablo’s on Market. All three are on Market Street.

The remainder of the performances are as follows:

  • April 20 — Calhoun Community College Chorale and Lacey Snider.

  • May 18 — James Smith, The Autoharp Man, Old Time Christians and Lanny Rose Band.

  • June 15 — Just Down the Road and Brooke Higdon.

  • July 20 — Jeff Whitlow and the Old Barn Band.

  • Aug. 17 — Sister Grace and Country Rhoades.

  • Sept. 21 — Karen Newsum and Southern Splendor Chorus.

  • Oct. 19 — Etheline & The Johnson Boys and The Seniors.
