Twin shoots sibling to death after fight

PINE HILL (AP) — A 15-year-old girl was shot to death by her twin brother after an altercation at their rural Wilcox County home, police said.

Pine Hill Police Chief John Brown said Shayla Hosea was struck in the back by a single shotgun blast shortly after 5 p.m. Monday at the home in the Sunny South community.

Brown said she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's brother was charged with manslaughter and placed in the Hale County Juvenile Detention Center, pending a court hearing.

Authorities were not certain what the deadly argument was about, the Selma Times-Journal reported.

"He was chasing her after a little altercation," Brown said. "There were other people there, who called us. There were a few witnesses, but they didn't actually see when the shot went off."

Gloria Phillips, a counselor at Wilcox Central High School where Hosea was a freshman student, spent most of Tuesday counseling students troubled by their classmate's death.
