Athens hires Martin and Cobey to build complex
ATHENS — On Thursday, school officials voted to hire Martin and Cobey as construction managers for a multi-million-dollar athletic complex project.
The Athens City Board of Education has a three-phase plan estimated to cost $5 million to improve athletic facilities at Athens High School. The first phase is new fields for baseball and softball. That includes concessions.
Martin and Cobey will make 5 percent of the project cost.
Board member Russell Johnson was the only one to vote against hiring Martin and Cobey.
He said the board should address library and other academic needs first.
