Austin junior to attend West Point event

Austin High junior Marquis Morris will get a taste of life this summer at one of the nationís most prestigious military academies.

The Austin JROTC cadet is one of 800 high school students selected to attend the U.S. Military Academyís Summer Leaders Seminar. Morris will spend a week following an academy cadet through his routine. Heíll go to class, participate in physical training and play intramural sports.

Austin JROTC lead instructor Lt. Col. James Walker said Morris will be a candidate next year for admittance into the West Point, N.Y., academy.

An Austin student has been accepted into the academy for 11 straight years.

Marquis is the son of Leonard Morris Sr. and Sonia Morris. In addition to JROTC, he plays football and is a member of the Spanish Honor Society.

He is an Austin Ambassador.
