Wreck closes southbound lanes on I-65 in Hartselle

HARTSELLE — A tractor-trailer wreck closed traffic on Interstate 65 for about six hours Monday morning, but no one was injured, according to the Hartselle Police Department.

Capt. Tom Sparks said Vasyl Bezghura, 22, of Columbia, S.C., apparently fell asleep and ran into the median. The driver was not injured and received no treatment at the scene.

The accident happened at about 2:30 a.m. Until about 9 a.m., Hartselle diverted I-65 southbound traffic to Thompson Road, down U.S. 31 and back onto the interstate at Morgan County 55 in Falkville.

The Alabama Department of Transportation reopened one lane by 9 a.m. while workers repaired some asphalt damage in the other lane, Sparks said.

By noon, the state had opened both southbound lanes, a Hartselle dispatcher said.
