De-annexation bill not on commission agenda

Decaturís Planning Commission did not consider a request Tuesday from Madison Mayor Sandy Kirkindall to fight a de-annexation bill presented in the Alabama Senate.

Decatur City Councilman Ronny Russell, council liaison and planning commission member, said the commission didnít know of the issue until Monday, so it didnít have time to put it on Tuesdayís agenda.

Kirkindall asked Decatur council members Monday to help him fight a bill that would de-annex property near Zierdt Road and Madison Boulevard in Madison. He said the bill would set a precedent that could affect other cities like Decatur.

Russell said he expects the council and the planning commission to consider resolutions at upcoming meetings opposing the bill sponsored by Sen. Lowell Barron, D-Fyffe.
