State issues fire alerts in 14 counties
MONTGOMERY (AP) — The Alabama Forestry Commission on Wednesday issued a fire alert for 14 Alabama counties because of dry weather conditions.
The alert covers Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Escambia, Fayette, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Mobile, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Washington and Winston counties.
During a fire alert, permits for outdoor burning in these counties will be restricted and issued on an individual basis. Since March 1, 780 wildfires covering about 18,667 acres have occurred in Alabama.
